Bismillah Party from Islamic Perspective
`Uthman reported the Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying: “The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur’an.” (Abu Dawud)
It should be known that memorization of the Qur’an and learning its proper recitation during one’s childhood represent a blessed and successful method that was commonly practiced by the predecessors of this Ummah.
Bismillah party is an occasion celebrated by South Indian Muslims in which a party is held to celebrate the starting of reading of the Qur’an by a child. This tradition has become some kind of rituals when a family puts their child into a school of reading Qur’an.
In this short video Dr. Muhammad Salah highlights the virtues of teaching children the Qur’an and the lawfulness of rewarding a child upon memorizing the Qur’an.
Is There a Difference in Reward between Listening and Reciting Qur’an?
There are many verses and Prophetic hadiths that command us to recite the Qur’an. Allah Almighty says:
And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation. (Al-Muzzammil 74:4)
Abu Umama said that he heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saying: “Recite the Qur’an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It.” (Muslim)
Also, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to listen to the Qur’an from his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). `Abdullah ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him, “Recite the Qur’an to me.” `Abdullah said, “Shall I recite (the Qur’an) to you while it has been revealed upon you?” He said, “I like to hear it from others.” (Al-Bukhari)

The Quran is the word of Allah Almighty and is not created. The Quran says in many verses that Allah Almighty speaks as we read:
And Allah spoke to Moses with [direct] speech. (An-Nisa’ 4:164)
In another verse, the Quran says:
And who is more truthful than Allah in statement. (An-Nisa‘ 4:83)
“And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people…” (Al-Ma’idah 5:116)

Jabir narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Iblis places his throne upon water; he then sends detachments (for creating dissension) ; the nearer to him in rank are those who are most notorious in creating dissension. One of them comes and says: “I did so and so.” And he says: “You have done nothing.” Then one amongst them comes and says: “I did not spare so and so until I sowed the seed of discord between a husband and a wife.” The Satan goes near him and says: “You have done well.” A’mash said: He then embraces him.” (Muslim)
It was narrated from Ibn `Abbas that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.” (Ibn Majah)

Teaching Children the Quran
Ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “All of you are guardians and responsible for your subjects. The ruler is a guardian of his subjects, the man is a guardian of his family, the woman is a guardian and is responsible for her husband’s house and his offspring; and so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your subjects.” (Agreed Upon)
In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” (At-Tirmidhi)

Almighty Allah says:
He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (Al-Hashr 59:27)
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is witr (one) and loves ‘the witr‘ (i.e., odd numbers).” (Al-Bukhari)
Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues his commentary on the Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah Almighty. The Name of Allah, Al-Afuw, occurs in the Quran only five times, four of which are linked with Al-Ghafur, and one is linked with Al-Qadeer Al-Afuw means the One who blots out and leaves no trace of any sin or fault. It also means the One who can remove and obliterate all traces of sin.
